Reading Track League 10 June 2013

-

The Derny bikes were out again at Palmer Park in Reading for Round 7 of the Championship, but not before the Senior A riders were set off in pursuit of the Bs in the opening Hare and Hounds race.

10 laps is normally plenty of time for the top tier riders to catch the youths, juniors, novices and veterans that make up the Senior B ranks but tonight sheer weight of numbers (and some promising youngsters) ensured that the Hares out-ran the Hounds. Tom Sefton of Palmer Park Velo was first over the line followed by Josh Mitchell of Bicester Millenium and Sefton’s team mate Matt Lansley.

With the Senior A riders taking up most of the program with Derny heats and Finals, the other main race for the Senior Bs was a Points Race and it was Sefton who took top honours again, edging out Mark Shepherd of Banjo Cycles and Lansely to make it two out of two.

The Derny Final was a close affair with series leader Max Stedman of AW Cycles taking control of the race from the front – but facing a real challenge from team mate Joe Crolla. In the final sprint, Crolla abandoned his pacer in an attempt to get the best run to the line but it was Stedman who took the honours again with a third AW Cycles rider – Trevor Bradbury – in third place.

The As and Bs were back together again for the penultimate event of the evening – the Unknown Distance – and it was Matt Gittings of AW Cycles who won by a very familiar distance – the Gittings Country Mile. Ian Greenstreet of Newbury RC and Stedman took the other points-scoring positions in the Senior As with Dan Lansley of AW Cycles taking the Senior B race to prevent Sefton’s clean sweep – the Palmer Park Velo rider taking second ahead of Mitchell.

The AW Cycles 20k Endurance race looked more like an enlarged team pursuit by half distance with a group of 6 working together to keep the pace high. Once again, though, Gittings’ pace was too much for the rest at the finish with Crolla taking second place ahead of Stedman. Sefton and Shepherd had stayed with the As to the end and took the top two places with last week’s winner Gorvy, who only dropped off in the closing stages, rolling home to take 3rd place.
