The penultimate day of competition at the velodrome sees the Women’s Sprint through the Quarter Final stage and the first three events – the Flying Lap, Points and Elimination Races – of the Women’s Omnium. The only medal of the session is in the Men’s Sprint – with Semi Finals and Finals today.
Women’s Sprint – Quarter Finals
The Women’s Sprint progresses to the Quarter Finals stage – and the first of the match sprint rounds. There are some tough match ups – Olga Panarina of Belraus will make it tough for Great Britain’s Victoria Pendleton and Kristina Vogel of Germany’s duel with Simona Krupeckaite of Lithuania could be close. But the form is starting to assert itself. We think we know who’s going to get through to Tuesday’s closing stages, so…

Men’s Sprint – Semi Finals
The Men’s Sprint comes to its conclusion and we saw nothing in the Quarter Finals to change our minds about the outcome. Kenny and Baugé will contest the Final and the Frenchman will clinch the Gold. The match for Bronze will be closer, but we still think Trinidad and Tobago’s Nijsane Philip could nick it.

Women’s Omnium
There are a number of riders capable of winning the Women’s Omnium – including two former and the current World Champion. All four of them have already been in action in the Team Pursuit this week – three of them picking up medals.
The one that just missed out this week is also the only one of the four not to have won the World Championship – but don’t rule out Australia’s Annette Edmondson. She’s a talented all-rounder and the Aussies are desperate to boost their medal count – not just in the velodrome but across the Olympic disciplines.
Tara Whitten of Canada and Sarah Hammer of the USA are both hugely experienced and will provide a real medal threat, but we have a feeling they may be battling over Bronze with Edmondson’s real challenge coming from the current World Champion Laura Trott of Great Britain.
The diminutive Brit is a master of the Elimination and will be at or near the top of the timesheets in the three timed disciplines. She also a pretty mean bunch racer.
This time we are going to put our money where our mouths are and make a prediction before the start of the first day of competition.
