Men’s 15km Scratch

 WC12030

Two attempts to slip away from the field by Andreas Mueller of Austria in the closing stages livened up a blisteringly fast, but cagey Men’s Scratch Race. The first attempt was pulled back but the second looked as though might just work with Mueller half a lap ahead with six to go. Italy’s Elia Viviani led the chase with Martin Blaha of the Czech Republic and Ben Swift of Great Britain in pursuit. Swift caught Blaha and Viviani and overhauled Mueller as the bunch begain its charge. Although the Yorkshireman was holding on, a determined effort from Nolan Hoffman of South Africa looked like it might pay off as they exited turn four.

Hoffman came very close, but he couldn’t quite overhaul a delighted Swift. Wim Stroetinga of the Netherlands just heeld off Alex Frame of New Zealand to take the Bronze.

GOLD SWIFT Ben GBR
