A fantastic session of racing with over 100 riders competing in 17 events on a warm evening in perfect conditions.
The Senior A events were run off at a cracking pace in all four events. A lone break in the final 2 laps of the opening 10 lap scratch saw Andrew Elderfield just hold off Tony Gibb by inches at the line. The 5 Hares in the 10 lap Hare and Hounds rode strongly and were only caught as they entered the home straight in the final lap with Tony Gibb taking his second win of the evening. He went on to take the 10 laps Points from John McClelland and Lewis Atkins
Michael Westwell opened his first ride in the League with a win in the B 10 lap Scratch from David Mills and Richard Norris in a 40 strong field. Roger Woodford won the 10 lap Odds and Evens Block Pursuit as his group made a telling move in the final 2 laps. Westwell also added the Devil to his CV.
The Senior 10 mile produced in interesting scenario for the Judges when five B group riders made full use of their half lap start to get across to the tail of the A group putting them a lap ahead of the field. The fast pace made it impossible for the A riders to shed these five B riders and as the 40 strong bunch entered the final lap the Judges needed to identify the finishing order of the ‘flying 5’ to sort out the final places. Richard Norris was the clear winner with Will Hedden, Alan Trolove, Michael Westwell and Traherne Rayner filling the minor placings in a cracking race to end the evenings racing
In the three Youth series Ollie Plumley dominated the Youth AB group while Ollie Fensom despite missing the first race due to traffic delays notched up two wins in the BC group. The Youth CDE section saw Marcus Burnett take the opening 4 lap scratch. The three youngest riders make full use of the handicaps to take most of the honours in the Handicap events leading from the front while many of the other riders watched each other forgetting and failing to chase down the limit riders.
