On Saturday just under 100 riders descended on Welwyn track for the 3rd round of the Southern Area British Cycling Youth Omnium. Strong winds and the threat of rain made for tough racing conditions for the various age groups with 4 races scheduled for each age group in the Omnium format.
In the Youth A category Ollie Rossi won all four events to take a well earned win overall with Charlie Heffernan and Ed Bird taking the minor places followed by three Welwyn Wheelers riders – Tom Gallacher, Ben Bailey and Dan Snow.
The Youth B Boys was closely contested with Daniel Maslin and Ashley Dennis in contention for top spot as they lined up for the final event – the 500m sprint. Daniel Maslin won the sprint but Ashley Dennis’ consistency gave him the overall win by one point with Welwyn Wheelers Cameron Howard in third place.
Emily Barnes had a clean sweep of the Under 14 Girls events from Amy Jacobs and Kim English.
The Under 12’s was a triumph for Welwyn Wheelers Joseph Fry with a winning total of 5 points from his nearest rival David Couch with 13 points who edged out Joseph Linehan for second place by a single point.
The Under 10 group with 13Â riders went to Carl Jolly from Tom Durkin and Lauren Murphy
The Under 8’s was won by Joe McGuiness.
